Smartifie Cut is a cutting optimization app that turns a parts list into a cutting plan for bars (1D), sheets (2D) or blocks (3D) for workshops that cut furniture panels, glass, sheet metal, aluminium and PVC profiles, rebar, foam, stone or timber. You enter each material's saw rules once (kerf, trims, grain, panel-saw constraint), keep your sheets, bars, blocks and offcuts as stock, and the optimizer lays the parts out with as little waste as it can find. A saved plan goes to the saw as a printed cut ticket or PDF, part labels can be printed with barcodes, and sending the plan to cutting takes the stock off and puts reusable offcuts back on the shelf. Today it runs as a web app at cut.smartifie.com with cloud plans for teams; Windows and Android editions are announced as coming soon.

What you can do with Smartifie Cut
- You can plan cuts in three modes, chosen per material: 1D for bars, profiles, pipes and rebar; 2D for sheets, panels, glass and plate; 3D for foam, stone and timber blocks.
- You can enter a material's saw rules once on the Materials screen (Kerf, Leading trim, Trailing trim, Side trim, Top/bottom trim for blocks, Min. reusable offcut, Has grain, Rotation allowed, Guillotine cuts only) and every job in that material inherits them.
- Ticking Guillotine cuts only on a 2D material, or for a single run on the Optimize screen, produces layouts a panel saw can cut edge to edge; without it the optimizer uses a free layout that packs tighter.
- Parts marked Follow the grain keep their length along the sheet's grain (set per stock item: Along the length or Along the width) and are never turned; on blocks they keep the material's grain axis, for example height for foam and length for timber.
- You can keep stock as one row per size with Quantity on hand, plus optional Unit cost, Currency, Grain, Stock card and Notes, and mark a row as an Offcut.
- The material's Cost basis (Per piece, Per length, Per area, Per volume) decides what a stock item's unit cost means, so a sheet priced per square metre with sizes in millimetres still gives a correct plan cost.
- You can import stock and job parts from .xlsx, .xls or .csv files; columns are matched by their header in Turkish, English or Spanish, not by position.
- Re-importing a stock file updates the rows with the same stock code in the same material instead of duplicating them, and columns missing from the file keep the values already stored.
- A job is one customer's list of parts from one material, with Customer, Reference, Date, Due date and Notes; the customer is searched in your company's Smartifie customer list or typed in.
- The parts grid of a job takes Code, Name, Length, Width, Height (blocks only), Qty, rotation, Follow the grain, the four banded edges L1, L2, W1, W2 (sheets only) and a Label shown on drawings and labels.
- Parts are not priced by count: a single job may hold up to 2,000 lines and 100,000 pieces.
- For one run you can override the kerf, choose what to Minimise (Least waste or Fewest stock items), switch the guillotine constraint (sheets) and, under Advanced, set Search time from 0.1 to 60 seconds and a Seed.
- The result is shown before anything is saved: pieces placed, stock used, waste percentage and amount, cost (when the stock has a unit cost), run time, each distinct layout drawn with how many times to repeat it, and a Not placed list with the reason for every missing piece.
- The same seed and the same job give the same plan; every plan records its algorithm, kerf, seed and run time so it can be reproduced and explained later.
- With the Pro tools a plan may draw on several stock sizes and offcuts at once, and offcuts are filled before a full sheet, bar or block is opened.
- Send to cutting takes the used stock off the quantity on hand, adds the plan's reusable offcuts to stock as their own rows (Pro tools), locks the job and voids the job's other unreleased plans.
- Mark cut confirms the saw is done; Void gives back the stock a released plan took and retires the offcuts it created, and is refused if a later plan already cut from one of those offcuts.
- The Cut ticket prints from the browser or downloads as a PDF with one page per layout: drawing, parts table with size, position and a 90° mark for turned pieces, reusable offcuts, missing pieces, company name and a footer line.
- Labels (Pro tools) gives one 62 x 29 mm label per cut piece with its label, size, plan number, layout and a Code128 barcode, printed from the browser or downloaded as a PDF for a label printer.
- A plan exports to Excel as one workbook with four sheets: Summary, Layouts, Placements and Offcuts.
- 1D and 2D plans export to DXF (R12, LINE and TEXT entities, one layer per layout) and to a single SVG drawing (Pro tools).
- The 3D viewer (3D block module) draws each block with its pieces; you rotate and zoom with the mouse or by touch, and hovering a piece shows its label and size.
- Sheet plans total the edge band length from the edges ticked on each part, and the Edge banding report lists the band each job needs.
- Reports show waste by material over a date range, stock consumed and left per stock size, and edge banding per job, each exportable to Excel.
- On a phone the app shows a bottom bar with Jobs, Optimize, Plans and Stock, and every list can switch between Table and Cards.
Screens and how to use them
Overview
The landing screen after sign-in. Until the first plan exists it is a set-up checklist in the order the work has to be done; after that it shows the figures that need attention.
Steps
- Open Overview from the menu.
- While set-up is incomplete, follow the checklist: Materials, Stock (at least one item with quantity on hand), Jobs (the first job with its parts) and Optimize (run the optimizer on a job and save the plan).
- Press Set up next to an unfinished step to open that screen.
- Once a plan has been saved, use the tiles instead: Open jobs, Plans, last 30 days, Average waste and Stock items at zero; each tile opens its list.
Good to know
- The checklist disappears for good after the first plan is saved, even if stock later runs out.
Jobs
The list of cut jobs. A job is the list of parts one customer wants from one material; optimizing it produces plans.
Steps
- Open Jobs from the menu.
- Filter by Status (Draft, Planned, Sent to cutting, Cut, Cancelled) or type in Search.
- Press New job to create one, or Edit to open an existing job.
- Press Optimize on a row to open the Optimize screen with that job already chosen.
- Press Delete on a draft or planned job to remove it; its plans that were not sent to cutting are voided.
Good to know
- A job with a plan sent to cutting can no longer be edited or deleted.
Job
The job editor: the header and the parts grid. The grid works like a spreadsheet and is filled row by row with the keyboard, by pasting from Excel or by importing a file.
Steps
- Choose the material first; it decides which sizes are asked for (length for bars, length and width for sheets, all three for blocks) and the unit.
- Fill Customer (type to search customers), Reference, Date, Due and Notes.
- Press Add part and fill Code, Name, Length, Width, Height, Qty and the Label to print on drawings and labels.
- Tick rotation, Follow the grain (when the material has grain) and the banded edges L1, L2, W1, W2 (sheets) per line as needed.
- To bring rows from a spreadsheet, press Paste from Excel, paste the rows in the column order shown and press Add rows.
- To load a file, press Import and pick an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file; press Template first if you need the expected columns.
- Press Save, or Save and optimize to go straight to the Optimize screen.
Good to know
- Importing replaces the lines in the grid; if it already has lines you are asked to confirm Replace the lines.
- The import needs at least a length and a quantity column; the edge band column accepts L1 L2 W1 W2, or 4 for all edges.
- Changing the parts or material of a job that already has a plan voids the plans not yet sent to cutting.
Optimize
Where a job becomes a cutting plan: pick a job, pick the stock it may use, run, check the result, save it.
Steps
- Choose the job; only open jobs (draft or planned) are listed.
- Under Stock to use, tick the stock items the plan may take; only stock of the job's material with quantity on hand is offered.
- Check the Kerf, choose Minimise (Least waste or Fewest stock items) and, for sheets, Guillotine cuts only.
- Optionally open Advanced and set Search time (s) and Seed.
- Press Run; press Stop to end early and keep the best answer found so far.
- Review the verdict, the figures, the drawn layouts and the Not placed list.
- Press Save plan; the saved plan opens.
Good to know
- Without the Pro tools one stock size per plan is allowed; ticking a second item replaces the first.
- With the Pro tools the offcuts of the job's material are pre-selected with the first full size, and offcuts are filled before full stock is opened.
- Reasons a piece is not placed: larger than every stock item, stock ran out, no room next to the other pieces, too many pieces for one run, or the run was stopped.
Plans
Every saved optimizer result, with its status. A plan goes from Complete or Partial to Sent to cutting and then Cut, or it is voided.
Steps
- Open Plans from the menu.
- Filter by Status or type in Search.
- Press Open to see a plan, or Send to cutting on a complete or partial plan.
- Confirm the dialog, which states how many stock items will be taken.
Good to know
- Only one plan per job can be sent to cutting; the job's other unreleased plans are voided when it is.
Plan
One plan in detail: its figures, every layout drawn, its offcuts, its outputs and the next step in its life.
Steps
- Open a plan from Plans or right after Save plan.
- Read the figures: pieces placed, stock used, waste %, waste amount, edge band, cost, kerf, algorithm, seed and run time.
- Check each layout: the repeat count (x N), the stock code and size, the drawing with a legend per part and the reusable offcuts.
- Use the output buttons: Cut ticket, Excel, DXF, SVG and Labels.
- Press Send to cutting when the plan goes to the saw, then Mark cut when the saw is done.
- Press Void to cancel a plan that has not been cut.
Good to know
- Mark cut cannot be undone.
- Void on a released plan returns the stock and retires the offcuts it created; it is refused if a later released plan already uses one of them.
- Without the 3D block module a block plan still shows its numbers and the cut ticket; if the device cannot draw 3D, the pieces are listed layer by layer.
Cut ticket
The document that goes to the saw: one page per layout with the drawing and the parts table, printable or as a PDF.
Steps
- On a plan, press Cut ticket.
- Check the missing pieces box at the top if any piece could not be placed.
- Press Print to print from the browser, or PDF to download the file.
Good to know
- The company name and the footer line come from Settings.
- The PDF footer says it is a cutting plan, not a delivery note or invoice; block plans are drawn one height level at a time.
Labels
Part labels for every piece of a plan, for sticking on the cut parts. Part of the Pro tools.
Steps
- On a plan, press Labels.
- Check the label count; there is one label per piece per repeat of each layout.
- Press Print, or PDF to get a file for a label printer.
Stock
The sheets, bars and blocks on hand, one row per size per material with how many there are. Offcuts put back by a released plan are rows here too, marked Offcut.
Steps
- Open Stock from the menu.
- Filter by Materials, type in Search, or tick Show inactive.
- Press New stock item to add a size, or Edit to change one.
- To load a list, press Import and pick an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file; press Template for the expected columns.
- Press Delete to remove a stock item; plans already sent to cutting are not changed.
Good to know
- The import needs a stock code, a length and, on every row, a material written as its code or name under Materials; width, height, quantity, unit cost, currency, grain and notes are optional.
Stock item
One stock size: the material decides which sizes are asked for.
Steps
- Choose the material.
- Enter the Code, Length, and Width (sheets and blocks) and Height (blocks).
- Enter the Quantity on hand, and optionally Unit cost and Currency.
- For a sheet of a material with grain, choose Grain: No grain, Along the length or Along the width.
- Optionally enter Stock card, Notes, tick Offcut or clear Active.
- Press Save.
Good to know
- Inactive stock is not offered on the Optimize screen.
Materials
The rules every cut in a material follows. Every stock item and job names a material and inherits its mode, unit, kerf, trims, grain and guillotine rules.
Steps
- Open Materials from the menu and press New material.
- Enter Code and Name, and choose the Mode (1D, 2D or 3D) and the Unit.
- Enter Kerf and the trims: Leading trim, Trailing trim, Side trim (sheets and blocks), Top/bottom trim (blocks).
- Enter Min. reusable offcut and choose the Cost basis.
- For sheets, set Default edge band, Has grain and Guillotine cuts only; for blocks, Has grain and Grain runs; for both, Rotation allowed.
- Press Save.
Good to know
- Code and Mode cannot change after the material is created; the Unit cannot change while stock or open jobs use the material.
- A material still used by stock or open jobs cannot be deleted.
- A kerf of 0 shows a warning: plans will not fit at the saw unless the blade really removes nothing.
- A leftover smaller than Min. reusable offcut on any side counts as waste; with 0, no offcut is kept.
Reports
Waste by material over a period, counting only plans sent to cutting or cut. This is the report hub; the other two reports open from its buttons.
Steps
- Open Reports from the menu.
- Set From and To; the period starts one month back by default.
- Read per material: mode, plans, stock used, parts measure, stock measure and waste %.
- Press Excel to download the table, or Stock usage or Edge banding to open the other reports.
Good to know
- Waste above 20% is highlighted.
- Waste here is everything in the stock used that is not a part: kerf, trims, offcuts and unused remainder.
Stock usage
For every stock size, how many items released plans consumed and how many are left.
Steps
- From Reports, press Stock usage.
- Optionally filter by Materials.
- Read Code, Materials, Size, Consumed and Quantity; offcut rows are marked.
- Press Excel to download the list.
Good to know
- Counts only plans sent to cutting or cut.
Edge banding
The edge band each job needs, from its plans: what the banding machine's roll has to cover.
Steps
- From Reports, press Edge banding.
- Set From and To.
- Read per job: Job no., Customer, Materials, Edge band length and Status; the total is shown per unit.
- Press Excel to download the list.
Good to know
- Band length per piece is the length for each long edge ticked (L1, L2) plus the width for each short edge ticked (W1, W2), multiplied by the pieces cut.
Settings
Company-wide defaults for units, the optimizer, plans and printed documents.
Steps
- Open Settings from the menu.
- Choose a Group (Optimizer, Plans, Company, Site) or type in Find a setting.
- Change a value; it is saved at once and marked Changed.
- Press the arrow next to a changed setting (Revert to default) to return it to its default, or Reset all for every setting.
Good to know
- Plans group: Sending a plan to cutting takes its stock, and Sending a plan to cutting keeps reusable offcuts as stock, both on by default.
- Company group: Company name on tickets and Footer line on printed pages.
- Optimizer group: Default unit for new materials and the Seed used when the Optimize screen's seed is 0.
- Site group: the site's time zone as an IANA name (for example Europe/Istanbul), which decides what today means for new job dates.
Account
Your account, your plan and licence, and your data, in five sections. It is always reachable, including when the licence only allows reading.
Steps
- Open Account from the menu.
- Under Account information, check your Name, E-mail and Access (Owner / administrator or Team member); press Go to my account to change profile or team on smartifie.com.
- Under Plan and licence, check the status (Active, Read-only, Not activated), Edition and Valid until; press Manage subscription to change the plan on smartifie.com.
- Under Export data, press Download all data (Excel) to get every table as one workbook.
- Under Delete data or Delete account, press the button to continue on smartifie.com.
Good to know
- Only the account owner or an administrator can export the company's data.
- Deleting cloud data is confirmed by the owner on smartifie.com, with a waiting period during which it can be cancelled; the account, users and licences are kept.
- Deleting the account freezes it first and deletes it 30 days later; it can be cancelled within those days.
Frequently asked questions
Does Smartifie Cut limit the number of parts I can optimize?
No part-count tiers: no plan is priced by the number of parts. A single job can hold up to 2,000 part lines and 100,000 pieces, and a large job is planned in seconds.
Can Smartifie Cut make cutting plans for a panel saw that only cuts edge to edge?
Yes. Tick Guillotine cuts only on the material (or for one run on the Optimize screen) and every layout is built from edge-to-edge cuts; a plan that fails the guillotine check is not saved.
How does Smartifie Cut handle the saw blade kerf?
The kerf is entered once per material and taken once between two adjacent pieces. A piece against the outer edge of the stock needs no extra cut, and the kerf can be overridden for a single run on the Optimize screen.
Can it respect wood grain or veneer direction?
Yes. Mark the material Has grain, give each sheet its grain direction, and tick Follow the grain on the parts that must keep it; those parts are never turned against the grain. Blocks keep the grain axis set on the material.
Can Smartifie Cut reuse offcuts from earlier jobs?
Yes, with the Pro tools. When a plan is sent to cutting, leftovers at least as big as the material's minimum reusable offcut go back into stock as offcut rows, and the optimizer fills offcuts before it opens a full sheet, bar or block.
Can one cutting plan use several sheet sizes or bar lengths?
Yes, with the Pro tools: you tick several stock items and the optimizer chooses which to open. Without them (Basic) a plan uses one stock size.
Can I import a cut list from Excel or CSV?
Yes. Parts and stock import from .xlsx, .xls or .csv, with columns matched by their header in Turkish, English or Spanish. You can also paste rows straight from a spreadsheet, and a Template button gives the expected layout.
Does Smartifie Cut export DXF for CNC or nesting software?
It exports DXF in R12 format with LINE and TEXT entities, one layer per layout, for bar and sheet plans (Pro tools). It does not produce G-code and does not promise compatibility with a specific machine.
Can it print labels with barcodes for cut parts?
Yes, with the Pro tools. The Labels screen makes one 62 x 29 mm label per piece with the part label, size, plan number and a Code128 barcode, printed from the browser or as a PDF.
Can Smartifie Cut cut foam, stone or timber blocks in 3D?
Yes, with the 3D block module (included in Cloud Team and in the trial). Pieces are packed into blocks in any allowed orientation, and the plan is shown in an interactive 3D viewer.
Is the waste percentage in Smartifie Cut gross or net of offcuts?
Gross: it is everything in the stock used that is not a part, divided by the stock used, so kerf, trims, offcuts and the unused end are all inside it. Reusable offcuts are listed separately on the plan and the ticket; the Smartifie blog article on cut list waste percentage explains the difference.
Can I undo a plan that was sent to cutting?
It depends. Void returns the stock and retires the plan's offcuts, unless a later plan has already used one of them; after Mark cut the plan can no longer be changed.
How is the free Cut List Optimizer on smartifie.com different from Smartifie Cut?
The free browser tool plans one stock size and one material per run, in 1D or in 2D strip-and-column guillotine layouts, with up to 200 lines and 1,000 pieces, and saves nothing. Smartifie Cut keeps materials, stock, offcuts, jobs and plans, mixes stock sizes, handles grain per part, edge banding, cost, labels, DXF and 3D blocks.
Does Smartifie Cut work offline?
Not today. The cloud edition runs in the browser and needs internet; the Windows and Android editions, announced as coming soon, are planned to keep data on the device and work offline.
Is there a free trial of Smartifie Cut?
Yes, 15 days with everything unlocked, including 3D, with no credit card. The product is in closed testing right now and public sign-up is opening soon.
Can several people in my workshop use it together?
Yes, on the cloud plans: Cloud Starter includes 3 users and Cloud Team 10, with a repeatable +5 users add-on. Everyone sees the same materials, stock, jobs and plans; the team is managed on smartifie.com.
What happens if my subscription or trial ends?
Your records stay readable and exportable, but new jobs and plans cannot be saved until a licence is active again.
What Smartifie Cut does not do
- No G-code or direct machine output: plans export as PDF, Excel, DXF and SVG only, and compatibility with a specific saw or CNC is not promised.
- Parts are rectangles (2D), boxes (3D) or lengths (1D); irregular shapes and free-form nesting are not supported.
- A job uses one material; parts from different materials need separate jobs.
- A job holds at most 2,000 lines and 100,000 pieces; one stock import reads at most 5,000 rows and files up to 20 MB.
- DXF and SVG export are not offered for 3D block plans.
- A saved plan cannot be edited; to change it, run the optimizer again and save a new plan.
- Customers cannot be created or edited inside Smartifie Cut; a job picks from the company's Smartifie customer list or takes a typed name.
- The Windows, Android, iOS and macOS editions are not published yet; today the product runs only in the browser and needs an internet connection.
